According to dictionary.com, “queer” is an adjective that means:
1. strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different; singular:
2. a. Sometimes Disparaging and Offensive. (of a person) gay or lesbian.
b. noting or relating to a sexual orientation or gender identity that falls outside the heterosexual mainstream or the gender binary.”
District 4J Pride Fest’s post read, “Enjoy some free and purchasable goodies, participate in activities hosted by 4J GSAs and affinity groups, receive LGBTQIA+ resources from community organizations, watch some amazing queer performances by students and community members, and so much more,”
Why does a school district that purports to serve all students go out of its way to promote “queer” behavior? If this is an appropriate venue for “queer performances,” why did 4J remove their social media post as quoted in the KATU post at https://katu.com/news/local/drag-performances-being-hosted-by-oregon-school-district-under-fire-for-sexual-fantasy-assignment-eugene-4j-churchill-high-pride-fest-lgbt
Moreover, why does any school district promote ideologies related to sex and gender to our kids during the most sensitive developmental phases of their lives?
Kids 4 Success supports celebrating individual children, every one of us has our quirks and unique personality traits. What is being sold as “queer” here is an idea of acceptance through non-traditional gender and sexual identification. Again, our school districts are not the proper venue for promoting gender and sexual lifestyles to children under the age of consent.
When HIV and pregnancy groups are sponsoring an event for children, we must question the moral direction of our community. When the 4J School District adds their name to the same, we must question their moral direction as well.
We ask that the district cancel this inappropriate event and refrain from pushing these ideologies in our schools.
The next 4J School Board meeting is Wednesday, June 7 at 7 pm. Sign up to give public comment by 5 pm this Monday, June 5th (NOTE: Sign up required 2 days in advance of meeting!!) at https://www.4j.lane.edu/board/publiccomment/#form or email your comments to board@4j.lane.edu
