Grant Johnson

Bio: I am Grant Johnson. I was born and raised in Oregon, moving from the big city to small town Hermiston at a young age. Early on I was intrigued with civics, serving as junior class vice president and senior class president.

Following high school, I extended my scope of service from the school community to serving America with the Air Force. I enlisted in the military my junior year, leaving home immediately after graduation. I served for over 20 years in locations across the country and around the globe. I experienced a plethora of challenges,
carrying out missions, and working with a wide variety of people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. I learned to be decisive and to take ownership of my actions.

After my active duty military career, I studied Human Resource Management. As a civilian, I returned to the position of Base Training Manager for Dover AFB in Delaware. After finally retiring in 2021, my wife Gigi and I returned to my home state after 44 years of civil service. Gigi and I have five adult
children and two grandchildren.

Besides my experience as Base Training Manager, I share my lifetime love of aviation as a certified pilot and ground instructor. I also enjoy teaching life skills by helping people to eliminate debt and learn to manage their financial lives successfully through my personal business within the financial services
sector.

My hobbies include reading a wide variety of subjects, learning to become a successful gardener, and my son is coaching me in fishing. Trail hiking has always been an enjoyable pastime, and this extends my appreciation of experiencing Oregon’s natural resources.

My vision is to serve on a board that is cohesive and timely in defining goals, implementing goal tasks, managing and reporting progress. My emphasis will be clear communication with students, parents, school district administration, union, and taxpayers.

I will provide a means of mutual communication. I bring to the school district a proven ability to manage objectively, to communicate clearly, and to create
an environment of exchange that enables a voice to all concerned for the preparation of young people for life successes.

My greatest strengths are organization and team building, defining objectives, goal time expectations, and follow through. I am running for this school board to contribute a variety of skills, views and management
abilities.

I’ve always been in public service, and I desire to be of service in my retirement years. I love my home state and have great desire to contribute to enhancing our public-school outcomes and improving the community’s perception of public education.
