Oregon students have not been well served by the state bureaucrats and the teachers union. In the Bethel district alone it has been reported that average proficiency levels in math of 18% and reading of 35% (which are 12% lower than the statewide average!). Teaching your kids via Zoom and keeping students out of the classroom due to Covid-19 concerns has harmed the students attending Bethel
schools. We must focus on teaching kids “How to think, not what to think”. When you set high expectations you receive better results.
TRUE TRANSPARENCY OF CURRICULMS AS DEMANDED BY PARENTS.
These are your kids, not the teachers union’s or the school district’s kids. So you have the right to “Demand better results”. These kids will be our community’s future innovators and leaders. We must not fail these kids! That is why I am seeking to be your voice in reversing this terrible trend, which has caused such damage and will lead to increased pain and poverty for many years.
SAFE AND WELCOMING SCHOOLS FOR ALL STUDENTS.
Many parents fear what could happen to their children while at school. We need to do more to secure Bethel school campuses. As well as ensuring the safety of your kids from predators both in and out of the classrooms. We need a reporting system that allows for anonymity when inappropriate conduct is suspected. Along with a policy of swift response and through investigation and accountability, that is
transparent to the families involved.
Please help the parents of these Bethel students by voting for Scott Chatham, in the election of your
Bethel School Board position #6, and hold Bethel schools accountable.
